One side has TRADE LUDLOW MARK cast in,the other side has Ludlow Valve Mfg Co Troy,Ny stamped in. The cast iron handle has OPEN and a directional arrow cast into it. Ludlow is associated with making fire hydrants so this valve may be associated with fire-fighting equipment. The gate is thicker and heavier duty than most of what other gate valves have and the valve body also looks heavier. Many early valves had the pounds of pressure for different liquids they were designed for cast into the body, this one does not so it may be very early before those requirements. If you have a neat old one-lung pump display, you may not want a modern Chinese vale on it,maybe this one will do. Lightly pipewrenched but in great original condition.
